The MK18 rifle has its roots in a modified version of the M4 carbine, developed to meet the needs of special units. The first version of MK18 was created based on the requirements of the U.S. Navy SEALs for a compact and highly efficient rifle for close combat.

The gearbox is reinforced and includes premium internal parts (the list of which is provided below in the description). The manufacturer states the gearbox's durability up to a spring of M120 strength.
