Premium Hop-up Buckings by Maple Leaf

Hop-up bucking, along with a precision inner barrel, a chamber pressure system, and high-quality BBs, is one of the most crucial components affecting your weapon's accuracy and range. If you want to shoot farther and more accurately, you don’t need to excessively increase muzzle velocity. It’s like adding gas to a car without a steering wheel. Finding the right setup is an art, and everyone has their own formula that works best for them.
Hop-up buckings are available in various models, each designed for a specific type of inner barrel (AEG/HPA, GBB/VSR, Hybrid), muzzle velocity (shore hardness), outdoor temperature (classic and silicone buckings), and most importantly, their purpose (range or accuracy).
The longer and wider the contact surface with the bucking, the greater the range you can achieve, though this might come at the expense of accuracy compared to using buckings with an arrow/diamond-shaped patch. These buckings offer better initial contact across the BB width, transitioning to an arrow point to guide the BB, improving accuracy and grouping. However, they might not impart as much spin for greater distances as wider patches.
To help you choose, below is a breakdown of different bucking types, making your selection easier. Ultimately, finding the right one is a personal journey.

Classification of GBB/VSR Hop-up Buckings by Maple Leaf

  • DECEPTICONS (DELTA)
The patch has a diamond shape, making this bucking ideal for achieving higher accuracy. The first model, called MONSTER DELTA, was available only in durable black. The DECEPTICONS models are now color-coded by hardness for easier identification. In 2023, this model was upgraded for better sealing. It is also available in a silicone version, suitable for cold weather.

  • AUTOBOT (DIAMOND)
The patch has a delta-arrow shape, making this bucking ideal for achieving greater range. This is an improved version of the original MONSTER DIAMOND, which was available only in durable black. Like DECEPTICONS (accuracy), the AUTOBOT (range) models are color-coded by hardness. In 2023, the model was redesigned for improved sealing. It is also available in a silicone version, suitable for cold weather.

  • SUPER
This model combines the best features of AUTOBOT and DECEPTICONS, offering the best balance between accuracy and range. It is designed for heavier BBs, making it suitable for high-performance sniper rifles.

  • MR HOP
Also known as Maple R-Hop, this bucking combines the advantages of R-Hop systems with the simplicity of traditional bucking installation. This model, also called Pan Hop (Mr. Hop), has a wide patch that covers most of the hop-up window. This provides much greater spin, resulting in significantly increased range. However, this system requires heavier BBs. For instance, if you currently use 0.30g BBs for a muzzle velocity of 125 m/s, you may need to switch to 0.36g BBs. While less accurate than the AUTOBOT model, it offers better range and can hop heavier BBs, compensating for any loss of accuracy. It is also available in a silicone version for cold weather.
  • WONDER
This innovative bucking with a W-shaped diamond patch focuses on extra precision, as the two guiding tips help center the BB better. This bucking offers higher precision than the DECEPTICONS model but slightly less range. If you’re a player who values reliable shots over long-range sniping, WONDER bucking is a great choice.

Disclaimer

  • The recommended muzzle velocity is based on the BB weight used. For example, if you use 0.36g BBs, the recommended velocity is measured with those.
  • The suggested BB weight and velocity are guidelines only. Individual setups should always test various combinations to achieve the best performance.

Recommendations

  1. Place the bucking on the barrel, aligning it with the hop-up window, and use the guiding grooves to ensure even installation.
  2. Before inserting the barrel into the chamber, lightly lubricate the exterior of the bucking with silicone oil (compatible with rubber materials) to facilitate installation. Do not lubricate the interior of the bucking.
  3. Do not force the barrel and bucking into the chamber.
  4. Before inserting it into the gun, test that a BB can smoothly pass through the barrel.
  5. Ensure the hop-up patch is centered in the chamber for proper accuracy and functionality. A misaligned patch may cause the BB to curve.
  6. A new bucking requires a "break-in" period of 200-400 shots to achieve consistent hop-up performance (depending on BB weight and muzzle velocity).
  7. Start with minimal hop-up pressure during the first shots. Gradually increase to achieve consistent shots rather than setting maximum pressure immediately.
