SOG Specialty Knives was founded in 1986 by Spencer and Gloria Frazer and is currently headquartered in Lynnwood, Washington. Initially, the company produced replicas of famous combat knives, but over time their offerings have expanded to include multitools, tools and EDC knives.

Na přelomu roku 2021 a 2022 ji koupila společnost GSM, která se specializuje na sportovní doplňky pro střelbu a lovecké sporty. Tím se SOG připojuje k rostoucímu seznamu GSM firem.
